Savonnerie Ivory Silk and Wool

Inspired from carpets woven in France in the 17th century. 

Savonnerie means 'Soap Factory' (French: savon). It refers to the original soap workshop converted to carpet weaving. 

They were mainly woven for the Royal households or as precious gifts. 

The designs were characterized by an exuberance of flowers in baskets, vases, cornucopias and bouquets. 

All drawn in a very naturalistic way related to contemporary Dutch embroidery and tapestry that was much in demand throughout Europe. 

The carvings in this modern interpretation of Savonnerie highlights the main patterns in silk.  The silk-wool interlay is created via hand-shearing.

Materials: Natural Silk (60%) and hand-spun Australian Wool (20%). Cotton base. 

Construction: Hand-knotted. Persian Weave. Made in Rajasthan, India by the finest weavers and artisans. GoodWeave Certified.
